Hello!

Welcome to RELEVANT, an exciting new engagement project for the Adam Smith Theatre. This is your opportunity to get involved and help shape the future of this much-loved space and we want you to be heard.

What Is Relevant?

The Adam Smith Theatre has been closed for refurbishment for two years and is the largest renovation in the history of the building. As we approach the reopening planned for September 2023, OnFife want to engage with the community to understand what services and facilities would be most relevant to them to create a vibrant community hub and a welcoming, inclusive place.

Relevant: Adam Smith is a creative consultation project involving staff, key stakeholder groups and the wider community working collaboratively with OnFife to explore the building’s spaces and services. This site is a portal to the project for anyone interested and wanting to be involved. There will be regular topic posts, including guest and star blogs, information about upcoming engagement events, and regular polls, so check back weekly for updates.

Who’s involved in this project?

OnFife is being helped with this project by a design firm called Nomad RDC who specialise in creative and imaginative methods that engage people, bring them on board and make their voices heard. From regular users of the Adam Smith to people who’ve never come through the doors before, Nomad will be working with the local community to uncover your needs and explore your vision so the theatre becomes a place relevant to you in future.

“There are major transformations going on in the building and my hope is that when the doors open and people see what’s been created, they’ll be proud to have the Adam Smith as such a great creative centre in their town.”

Marcus Kenyon, Chief Operating Officer

“My hopes for Adam Smith Theatre is that it is a valued, active and vibrant cultural and community hub and it inspires and supports creative individuals and businesses to start and flourish whilst engaging people in new experiences and opportunities that complement Fife’s wider cultural offer.”

Dan Brown, Head of Creative Development

“I hope Adam Smith Theatre becomes a place for all, with socially inclusive spaces and a diverse, fun-packed programme of culture and theatre to engage people from every background. Opportunities don’t just happen, we create them. The Adam Smith should inspire people to fulfil their dreams.”

Helen Stevenson, Venue Manager, Kirkcaldy Galleries

With the Adam Smith as the cultural and creative heart of Kirkcaldy, we want it to feel – and be – relevant to everyone in our community.

We’re really looking forward to welcoming back our music and drama groups as well as all of our loyal audiences.

As a new Creative Hub, the venue will be so much more than a theatre, so we’re keen to do all we can to ensure the widest community buy in. The Relevant: Adam Smith project will help us achieve this. Watch this space!
